Texts in Career Counselling 2004: an Overview of Guidance Systems in 11 Accession Countries is a translation of the ETF synthesis report on career guidance policies in 11 acceding and candidate countries as based on a survey carried out in 2002. Texts in Career Counselling 2003: Current Counselling Paradigms as Based on the Example of United Kingdom is based on a collection of articles originally entitled as Occasional Papers in Career Guidance, published by the Institute of Careers Guidance in collaboration with the Centre for Guidance Services at Nottingham Trent University and other careers institutions across UK. The unifying theme of all articles is career planning, which is described and analysed as a rational, systematic approach in the first chapter. The next two chapters survey career planning from the perspective of different career education and guidance contexts, whereas the fourth article takes a broader view and asks the reader whether practice should be predicated on how clients actually behave or on how they should behave. Records of Achievement is a portfolio handbook aimed above all at class teachers who in Estonia mostly always deliver at least some career issues during their weekly tutorials. It is compiled on the principle of comprising both teacher guidelines as well as worksheets for pupils to be photocopied for usage in a classroom. The oldest article in the book is called “Which School to Choose?” – it is written by an anonymous author H.S. and was published in the newspaper Waba maa in 1921. The second part of the book covers the development of the field from 1940s till 1990s, and comprises lots of articles about this difficult yet interesting period.
