Euroguidance Centres have been involved in the international exchanges of guidance practitioners already since 1992. Today the partners (20 countries) constitute a network called ACADEMIA which aims at providing the practitioners with an opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills in an international context, to study the changes that take place in Europe and learn from the experiences of their colleagues in other countries. Each year there are approximately 150 European counsellors who participate in the exchanges. Exchanges are financed by Leonardo da Vinci program (Lifelong Learning Program).
The network is currently co-ordinated by SAIO Strasbourg (SAIO - Service Académique d’Information et d’Orientation) in France. Each country prepares one-week programmes, which are published by the French co-ordinator in a common web catalogue.
If you are interested in participating, please contact the co-ordinating agency in your home country. Relevant contacts can be found in the web catalogue.
History of ACADEMIA in Estonia
In year 2000, the network co-ordinators from France visited Estonia with the aim to introduce ACADEMIA and present an invitation for the Euroguidance Estonia to join the network. This took place a year later when Estonia hosted colleagues from other European countries for the first time. Since year 2002 Estonia has been part of the network as a full member – in addition to hosting, Estonian specialists also have the opportunity to visit other countries.

Starting from 2002, Euroguidance Estonia organises an annual dissemination seminar for all people interested in the field of career guidance where the participants provide an overview about the information and experiences they acquired during the exchange. Additionally, a Compendium is produced that comprises both topics and themes researched during the exchanges as well as the materials brought to Estonia by the European participants of the same year. This material can be used a handbook about the systems, structures and relevant contacts of the visited countries, and it constitutes a valuable tool for counsellor’s in encouraging people for European mobility.
