Information needs of the career practitioners to support mobility on learning and working purposes
Euroguidance Estonia has organized an survey amongst Estonian career practitioners from the education and labour market sectors.
The aim of this survey was to find out the needs of Estonian career practitioners when providing information about mobility on learning and working purposes and participating in international cooperation. To obtain an overview of expectations for the National Resource Centre for Guidance (Euroguidance Estonia) by the Foundation Innove.
Nearly 50% of the Estonian career practitioners participated in the survey. The number of the respondents was the highest among the career guidance specialists at regional youth information and counselling centres and the career coordinators at pilot schools.
Results
According to the results, more than half of the respondents evaluated their knowledge on mobility on learning purposes average and more than one-third rather poor. Significant differences are related to the information sources which are used in daily work – those who use internet for finding information on mobility considered themselves rather well informed.
Majority of the respondents (91%) considered their need to be informed about mobility on learning and working purposes necessary. Accordingly, it is obvious that career practitioners are eager to deal with the mobility-related topics.
The respondents were also questioned on the importance and need for the international co-operation. 40% of the respondents have participated in various international activities during the last three years (e.g. conferences, work groups, field training, study visits) to improve their professional skills.
All in all, the survey produced useful information on the current situation of career practitioners’ need for the information about mobility on learning and working purposes. In addition, the relatively high expectations for the Euroguidance Estonia were revealed from the answers given in the section of thoughts and comments in relation to the mobility in national as well as international context.
A few extracts from the survey:
-
It is really important to have the opportunity to share experiences and best practises with colleagues and new contacts at international level;
-
Continuous thematic postings to the Estonian career practitioners’ list (including news, statistics, newsletters etc) to provide the practitioners with up-to-date information;
-
More cooperation is expected from the with universities – sharing information and best practices (career guidance specialists at higher education institutions).
