International Cooperation

Assistance to Georgian General Education in collaboration with UNICEF

Estonia in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund is assisting the state of Georgia in improving general education in Georgia. More specifically, this project will contribute to achieving the following results:Gruusia ja Eesti rahvusvaheline koostöö

  • University students will have access to Bachelor and Master programmes for acquiring teacher qualifications for pre-school and secondary school levels.
  • New National Curriculum is piloted in 15 schools coordinating all the components of implementation: methodologies, coaching, and training of school community, educational resources and other. This will serve as a good model for nation-wide scale up.
  • Language immersion concept and methodologies are created and institutionalized to support children from ethnic minorities to be fully included in school life and acquire academic skills in State and their mother languages simultaneously. The concept will be piloted and then scaled up nation-wide.
  • MoES will have concept paper for the governance and financing of small schools.

Direct beneficiaries of the project are 700 children, 150 school teachers and school management in 15 target schools with Georgian instruction language, 2 ethnic minority schools (instruction language Armenian and Azerbaijani), and academic personnel in nine state universities.

Project period: 01.02.2018 – 30.11.2018

Project partners: Ministry of Education, Science, Culture And Sport of Georgia, UNICEF Georgia, specialists of the National Curriculum Department of MoES, teachers and administrations from 15 selected schools, ethnic minority teachers and administrations from selected schools, teachers and lecturers from 9 state universities: Ilia, Javakhishvili Tbilisi, Sokhumi, Akhaltsikhe, Telavi, Kutaisi, Batumi, Gori and Zugdidi Universities.
