Belarus has a sizeable population of persons with disabilities, with 2017 estimates being at 536,000 people, or 5.7% of the population. This number also includes 29,931 children with disabilities. In addition, more than 149,919 children fall into the category of special educational needs.
The overall purpose of the project is that the Belarus national education system mainstreams inclusion as a prerogative to equitable access and quality to education for all children with disabilities and special educational needs.
Project period: 2018–2020
- Strengthen the capacity of national stakeholders on policy development and policy implementation around inclusive education.
- Review and update the existing core preschool and core primary school curricula from the perspectives of inclusive education.
- Strengthen a capacity of preservice teachers in using inclusive methodology.
- Piloting the model of supervision.
The project is managed by UNICEF CO in Belarus in cooperation with Foundation Innove, the Ministry of Education and Belarusian State Pedagogical University. The project is financed by UNICEF Belarus and Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
